The concert of the Prague Philharmonic Choir presents the most beautiful vocal pieces by purely Czech composers. Tonight, the renowned tenor Pavel Černoch will perform alongside the choir. The repertoire includes works by Bohuslav Martinů, one of the few European composers who conquered the United States, with his pieces premiered by the most celebrated American orchestras under the direction of world-renowned conductors. The concert also commemorates the fight for freedom and democracy by featuring compositions by Bohuslav Martinů, Petr Eben, and Jan Novák—composers whose lives and work were deeply affected by Nazi and Communist oppression. The works of Leoš Janáček and Antonín Dvořák, who also spent some time in New York and whose Symphony “From the New World” premiered in December 1893 at Carnegie Hall, reflect a deep love for God and humility towards nature. This evening is therefore the perfect opportunity to get acquainted with European composers whose works are acclaimed and performed all over the world.
The concert is held in collaboration with the Bohuslav Martinů Days Festival.
