Lukáš Kozubík

Choirmaster

Lukáš Kozubík is the Choirmaster of the Prague Philharmonic Choir, Artistic Director of the Prague Philharmonic Choir Academy in Honour of Soňa Červená, and Principal Choirmaster of the National Theatre Chorus in Prague. He has appeared as a guest conductor in numerous Czech and Slovak opera houses and regularly collaborates with leading orchestras.

With the Prague Philharmonic Choir, he has studied and performed works by Antonín Dvořák, Francis Poulenc, Alexander Scriabin, and Richard Wagner. Notable achievements include his acclaimed performance of Carmina Burana at the Smetana’s Litomyšl festival and a production of Schmidt’s opera Notre Dame at the St. Galler Festspiele in Switzerland.

Renowned for his warm and human approach, Lukáš Kozubík is also dedicated to education and outreach. In addition to classical concert performances, he focuses on educational initiatives and the development of a new series of family concerts.

He graduated in choral conducting from the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno under Lubomír Mátl. He also studied opera singing at the Janáček Conservatory and pursued art studies at the University of Ostrava. During his studies, he began collaborating with a number of concert ensembles, including Mátl’s Academic Ensemble, the Lumír Brno Choir, Musica conspirata Brno, Ansámbl Forte, and Chorus Ostrava.

Kozubík’s broad artistic involvement led to his appointment as assistant conductor, choirmaster, and répétiteur at the Chamber Opera of the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts. He has also served on the juries of several choral competitions. His extensive experience includes dozens of opera productions staged both in the Czech Republic and abroad, including festivals in Hungary, Poland, and Germany. In addition, he regularly performs cantata and oratorio repertoire.

In Slovakia, his long-term engagement was primarily focused on opera. From 2012 to 2021, he served as Choirmaster of the Opera at the National Theatre in Košice, where he also founded and led the Children’s Opera Studio. As a teacher at the local conservatory, he established both the opera studio and the school choir. He regularly collaborated with the State Philharmonic Košice, the Slovak State Chamber Orchestra in Žilina, and the Musica Iuvenalis Chamber String Orchestra.
